Behavior Reflection Papers

When students make poor choices, they are often sent to the school counselor to reflect on their behavior. Here are some reflection papers that I use, along with my principal and teachers.

This is a fun activity for individual and small group counseling settings that helps students identify and express their feelings. I typically provide a small snack, a napkin or plate, and a camera to take pictures of the feelings. I print a copy for the student to use in his/her classroom and one for myself as a back-up (and for my records). In some situations, I send an additional copy home after discussing with the student's parents.

Facial Expressions and Body Language

Picture
Understanding how to read the people around you is an important social skill. Facial expressions and body language, in general, provide helpful social cues.

For individual counseling, you could create a packet of all 6 pictures and complete each page one at a time (different sessions).

Angry Birds

Picture
I love using pop culture in my counseling program, because it instantly gets my students' attention. Angry Birds is a classic example. During an individual counseling session, you could explain the consequences of anger (negative choices we sometimes make) by showing the Angry Birds characters (left), which correspond to how they act in the game. Then, you can practice the "cool down" strategies.
Picture
During the session, the student can earn cups for positive choices. Then, the final minutes of the lesson can be spent playing Angry Birds with the cups.

I learned of both of these ideas through Pinterest.

After looking further, I found that The Home Teacher Blog has a lot of great Angry Birds resources.

I found Angry Birds posters and a workbook to use with students. Great quality!

This lesson would work well in individual,
small group, and classroom counseling lessons.
Enjoy!
