Pixar Week: BURN-E

1/7/2013

Day 2 of Pixar Week has begun!

Before we look at the short film of the day, Burn-E, I want to provide you with additional resources that help support its message.

Do you want to speak with your students about college? Check out Pixar's Monsters University website. It looks and feels like an actual university page, but with a cute Monster's Inc. twist. It's perfect for elementary students!

The short film of the day is about Burn-E, an adorable robot that makes spaceship repairs. One day, an exterior light breaks and Burn-E attempts to fix it - the only problem is that a series of unfortunate events make it difficult for this poor robot to do its job.

School counselors can use this movie to introduce careers and responsibilities. Also, it's a great way to talk about what you can and cannot control.

Hi Marissa-

I was wondering how exactly you use the Monster's University site? Do you just have the kids play around on it or are you more directed with it?

I haven't done much with it, but if I were to incorporate into a lesson now, I'd probably walk them through parts of it on a SMARTboard as a way to introduce aspects of college (i.e. what a "major" is, how to apply, etc.).
