Thank you so much for posting this, Marissa! I graduated in May and was recently hired for my first school counseling position at a large k-8 school in Massachusetts. I'm so excited to begin my career and this podcast is very helpful for me in figuring out the best way to handle documentation. Thank you for sharing :)

Hi Marissa! I'm a second-year school counselor at an elementary school with 525 students K-4. I was wondering, your "Individual Counseling Tracking Spreadsheet" is just for individual counseling sessions, right? Do you use that same spreadsheet to track the KIND of session that it was, for example, whether it was a planned session, a crisis, or just a drop-in? I ask because I'm trying to design a spreadsheet for myself that will keep information about every time I see students, whether it is for groups, lunch bunches, individual counseling, crises, lessons, etc. I'm very organized and I want to keep data so that I can develop an end-of-the-year report like you do! Any advice on how best to track all of that? Thanks so much for all you do! Best, Katie G.

I have a planner with all of the students I've seen and once I document and file a session, I highlight their name in my planner to show that they've been accounted for. I highlight their name in yellow if it was a planned session and blue if it was unexpected/crisis. That works for me, but I'm sure there are better ways.
