Red Ribbon Week

Picture

Candlelight Walk

My school district has a Candlelight Walk in which EVERY school participates. The event, held at our high school football field, recognizes student essay contest winners and involves a district walk around campus, drug free pledge, and more!

Pictures from our 2010 Candlelight Walk can be found here.

Spirit Days

We had Spirit Days that both the students and staff could participate in, even "sweats day"!

Daily Video Messages

During Red Ribbon Week 2011, Tim sent video messages to the entire school staff.

Teachers shared these video messages with their students. Surprisingly, even our oldest students enjoyed and looked forward to these videos. It was a great opportunity to build connections between our primary and intermediate students.

*These videos were created using our school's Flip camera.

Poster Contest

Picture
During my first Red Ribbon Week, I held a poster contest for students K-6.

The winners were announced on Friday's morning announcements and posters were hung in the hallways. You can have little prizes for the winners, but it's certainly not required.

Morning Announcements

I spoke on the announcements each day during Red Ribbon Week. We had a daily message, poem, and drug free awareness song.

Global Dignity Day

One of the school counselors in my district forwarded me this video and lesson. Her goal was to use Global Dignity as inspiration for her school's Red Ribbon Week events.

Auto Rap

Lisa Landy, a fellow school counselor, shared this awesome app called AutoRap, which turns your speech into a rap beat of your choosing.

You can check out Lisa's rap here (screen shot below). She used AutoRap to give her Red Ribbon Week pledge a boost and I have to say, it sounds pretty awesome.

Lisa used her iPad to record her voice, but you can use other devices as well. According to the App Store, this program is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.

This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
